Running Adventures and Lifelong Friendships: The Story of Suz McGee
In 2013, after twenty years in North Queensland, a place close to our hearts, my husband Bob and I made the decision to move to Brisbane. As our family dynamics shifted with our kids leaving home and the health of my gran declining, it felt like the right time for a new chapter. It was in Brisbane that we found a sense of belonging when we joined the run group at Intraining. Among the incredible people we met, one person stood out - Suz McGee, a kind and genuine friend who would soon become an integral part of our lives.
Suz embraced the opportunity to explore new trails and adventures with us. One memorable experience was our trip to Hamilton Island, where we ran amidst breathtaking scenery, tackled challenging hills, and even had a blast at the house reveal costume party. What started as a shared love for running and Suz joining us in our running adventures grew into a friendship that has now spanned a decade.
Suz’s running has been a part of her life for over 20 years, starting with fun runs alongside gym buddies. It brings her mental clarity and peace, also the chance to unwind and ponder life's complexities while running the trail, are what make running special for her. But beyond the solo aspect, running has also given Suz meaningful connections and lasting friendships, ‘like the one I share with Tracy and Bob’.
While Hamilton Island holds a special place in our hearts for its stunning views and camaraderie, there's one trail that has eluded Suz but remains on her bucket list - the Triple C. The challenge of obtaining the elusive running stones to enter the lottery, the excitement of finally getting a chance to conquer it, and the daunting yet empowering feeling of pushing her limits - these are the experiences that keep our running spirit alive.
Suz has been inspired recently by remarkable individuals like Ash Bartholomew, she continues to chase new running dreams, fuelled by the belief that she can achieve anything she set our minds to.
Suz's unwavering support and adventurous spirit have been a constant source of motivation on this journey, making every kilometre run, every hill conquered, and every finish line crossed all the more meaningful.
Here's to many more years of running adventures, lifelong friendships, and shared moments of triumph on the trails, with Suz by our side and our Intraining running club family cheering us on.
